Reagan-esque communicator Barack Obama wins White House

In the early months of 2008 it was apparent to me that Sen. Barack Obama was a politician much like Ronald Reagan. He was eloquent and inspirational, an excellent communicator.

I wrote about Oprah Winfrey’s endorsement of Mr. Obama on this blog back in June.

Since this is a public relations and social media blog, I’ll commend Obama on his use of the medium. No other person running for president of the United States has utilized technological tools as his campaign has.

Of course, they haven’t been available before to the extent they are now. But his campaign managed to utilize the Internet like no other candidate — one word — fundraising.

I say congratulations to Senator Obama for breaking barriers and running a winning campaign.

I’m certain that during the next presidential election we’ll see even more social media tools in play. Let’s hope such tools will also be utilized in increasing numbers by government.

  1. Good question, Melissa, and one you won’t find the answer to here.

The focus of this blog is business communication, how technology has changed the practice of public relations. I also discuss the varied new communication tools available through social media.

I’ll leave the political commentary up to the pundits and campaigns.

I’ll remain on this blog as I do in my party affiliation, independent.

I admire Barack Obama’s ability to inspire and I admire John McCain’s character. Our country is well-served by both of these men.

So, Pete, who did you vote for…Obama “the great communicator?”
