Looking forward to the day my computer can read my thoughts

I read an interesting article in BusinessWeek’s Aug. 11 publication.

The author tested a neuroheadset that lets users control PC programs with their thoughts. The headset, which consists of 16 sensors that communicate wirelessly with a computer, allows you to think of an action which is then performed by the computer.

It’s called an Epoc headset and it’s made by Emotiv. It is supposed to hit shelves later this year and sell for $300.

I have always admired that about Star Trek, that they were able to build a computer that would respond to “computer” and initiate tasks based on voice commands. They must have had a huge budget.

It would be so efficient for my blogging and online social media work to be able to think and have my thoughts turned into text on a screen.

You have to agree that the lowest common denominator in computing is input devices: keyboards, mice, etc. Can’t today’s technology come up with a faster way of inputting data into computers? Why do we have to work so hard and put up with carpel tunnel and all that repetitive stress stuff?

Perhaps there are some of you who hope to never live to see the day when a computer is adept at reading your thoughts.

I for one can’t wait. It’ll make life so much easier. And perhaps in that day I won’t even have to lift a finger to control the television. I’ll be able to attune it to my wishes alone and no one else in the family will be able to control the TV.
