How to receive notifications when someone posts to your Facebook fan page
Posted in Information on December 15, 2009
Today during my Ragan PR Daily webinar (#ragan17) the question was raised:
How can we receive an email notification when someone posts a comment on our Facebook fan page?
I thought there was a setting where you edit the fan page for notifications, but, upon further research, it appears there is not.
Despite repeated requests from within the Facebook community (I found a forum discussion on this topic) it’s not a feature supported by Facebook . . . yet.
But there is a workaround.
When you post something on your Facebook fan page, click on “Like.” This makes you the first commenter for the post, whether the original post is a comment, link, picture, video, etc. — any kind of content.
Because you “Liked” the item, Facebook then subsequently notifies you of additional comments or likes on the same post.
The update shows up under the Facebook fan page administrator’s “Notifications.”
It’s a clunky workaround, for sure. But it’ll at least get you notifications of activity on your Facebook fan page.
And Facebook, if you’re listening, Facebook email inbox notifications of posts on Facebook fan pages would sure be a helpful additional feature for fan page administrators.

Try MonitorMyPage at http://www.monitormypage.com. It automatically monitors your Facebook fan pages or Facebook business pages and looks for changes…new wall posts, comments, links, photos, etc. Then, MonitorMyPage emails the changes to you.
Pete, is this still true? Has anything changed since the posting of this article last year?
Thank you for this note! I just discovered on my fan page that a few people had commented on old posts and I completely missed responding to them… ARGH!
Yes doing the like option may work. But I found another way around. If you have a Black Berry or really any cell phone that has the internet, have that phone set up with the same email address as you use for facebook, then download and installl a facebook app onto your BB or cell. I have the BB storm and just did this and it working.
I really hope they do this soon. I want to be able to respond to clients soon after they post something.
Great idea. However, this only work when fans are responding to your posts. There is no way to be notified when a fan simply posts to the wall.
Disappointing that Facebook would leave such a glaring hole.
Workaround, yes…but you’re really tampering with the authenticity of the page when you click the like button first, every time. FB fans are smart. It won’t take long before they see the pattern – then you’ve lost credibility. Let’s hope FB addresses it soon.
Thanks! I’d wondered about this – great idea!
I second that!
I’m not sure about liking every single post but it works.
