Five critical decisions
Posted in Commentary on June 16, 2008
I recently read an article in the BYU Marriott School of Management Alumni Magazine titled 5 Critical Decisions. Its author is Gary Crittenden, current CFO of Citigroup. I was impressed with his forthrightness and how uncomplicated his advice was. So much so, that I decided to blog about it.
The five decisions he highlights are:
Education
Marriage
Risk
Exercise
Obedience
His comments come from both a physical and spiritual perspective, but that’s just fine because they’re interrelated.
Certainly we all should strive to obtain the highest level and the best education possible.
We should marry wisely. ‘Nough said.
With risk comes greater reward and plenty of opportunity for adversity. His point was that in the end, by taking risks everything works out to your benefit.
Exercise is vital to keep the physical body and mind operating optimally. Body, mind and spirit is the foundation of who we are (and not necessarily in that order).
His comments about obedience speak to doing what we say we’ll do. Certainly integrity plays a key role in our lives.
In business and as we interact with colleagues and friends, sometimes it’s the simple things that matter most. As others have advised: put first things first.
Words to live by.
