Advocacy journalism

Has anyone else noticed the media infatuation with Sen. Barack Obama?

Today the media pundits are aflutter over the McCain campaign’s Web video showing undying support for Obama by ‘journalists.’

The comments I’ve heard do bring up an interesting point: what ever happened to subjective journalism? It has been replaced by advocacy journalism.

Did the news anchors a decade or two ago hesitate to include personal bias in their reporting? Were the stations blatantly political? Or was there a more removed style of reporting?

It does provide for an interesting discussion with ABC, CBS and NBC sending their main anchors on the road with Obama this month and The New York Times refusing to publish an op-ed piece by Sen. McCain a week after it published an Obama op-ed.

I wonder if the honeymoon will end in divorce or if the media will stay true to its sweetheart senator from Illinois.
